Swallowed in the Sea

Fri Sep 25, 2009, 4:56 AM
  • Mood: Homesick
  • Listening to: Swallowed in the Sea
  • Reading: Sallust's Bellum Catilinae
So I know I haven't posted anything, or even been on in a while. Mea culpa.

I managed to get some lino prints done over the summer (ah, but guess what idiot left her inks in Wisconsin), so you don't get to see those until I go back in December (WTFAEN does Madison give us finals STARTING on the 19th?!).

(Side note: I love my Art History prof: anyone who cancels a Dec. 23rd final exam, citing "You need to get home" as an excuse is an amazing person.)

Other than complaining about exam schedules, I've been spending my time getting "foiled in my persuit of perfection" of introductory Ancient Greek.

Also, the practice room for my dorm has been declared an H1N1 quarantine zone, so no more piano. GRRRRRRRR! :(

But over the summer the Schleck and I composed a song for bass, piano, and voice -- I really love it, and we want to arrange it for his band, but we're running into issues of the guitar/ piano/ drum parts. The lyrics are from Auden's "Cocaine Lil and Morphine Sue", and I also have great ideas for a music video, but... I think we should start with the arranging first.

Anyway, I really want to start doing art again; I have lots of ideas, but I'm not quite sure how to execute them, so if any of you have any ideas/ takes on ideas/ want to see me try a picture you did in a different media, let me know and I'll pull out my lino blocks and get to carvin'.

(Any Muse fans out there: MI DI THIS NEW ALBUM IS AWESOME I CAN'T WAIT TO HAVE THE SCHLECK BUY IT FOR ME!)

Side note: I miss all my Coastie friends that I never got to see over the summer/ only got to see for a day.

do all the really touristy things, take lots (1,286) pictures of sarcophogi, floor mosaics, ceilings, and AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPES, and then wait a week or so to upload them to my other account :iconlurbography: (as in, they still aren't there -- wait until the end of the week: I managed to parse them down to 511, and being lazy, I'll probably only end up uploading 68 or so...)

But just thought I should give y'alls a heads-up.

Update: Me

  • Eating: Eating? Takes too much time out of studying!
  • Drinking: Anything caffeinated.
Because, as we all know, I am the most important person in the world. (Except for the French research paper I should be writing right now.)

Thanks for all your best wishes for Ultimate!!! (Not that I saw them until we'd finished, but I knew you guys would be rooting for me.)
Our A-team is going to be playing at Nationals this year to become the top team in the States (I think they won it last year). We (although this hasn't been confirmed) like to think of ourselves as the best B-team in the country. We started this year not really expecting to be anything, and ended up getting to play some of the top teams around (and winning... points, not games.)
The second day (Sunday) of our two-day tournament was one of the most miserable I have attended: it was raining, and lightning (we had to go inside for 30 mins while the thunder passed), and cold, and muddy, and the people running the field house were yelling at us for messing it up and threatening to revoke the school's host status next year (LAMOS!). So our second game in I managed to do a layout. Into the only mudpile on the field. And then I realised that I was so wet and cold and miserable, that it really couldn't get worse. I had so much fun. My clothes will be permenantly mud-stained from now on. :D

On a totally unrelated note:
1. I only have 1 class (a review) on Thursday, and only 1 class (an exam) on Friday. :D YEAY!
2. I HAVE FRICKIN' FINALS! Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday (AT A BLOODY 7.45 AM!).
3. On the plus side, I am a nerd, and I hear that Star Trek is getting really good reviews so far...
4. Brunch tomorrow: sausages and pancakes. Oschner kitchen. Whenever I get my sorry ass out of bed.
5. Some friends and I are planning on making a full-size model of a human skeleton out of brownies and cream-cheese frosting to take with us when we crash the Anthro department party! I'm PSYCHED for this epic/ tasty failure!
6. Pepineros: I'll get back to editing Sacrifice Power anytime after I get out of my last exam at 9.45 AM on Tuesday (no, seriously, who gives exams that earlY?!)
7. I really like the number 7.
8. Arch of Titus, 81 AD. Head of Sargon, 2333-2279 BC. WTFlux do I remember these? That was last semester. None of them were on the exam.
9. If you're in Madison and want to find me, try the library. Any one of our 40 + libraries.

PS: Anyone who is taking or has taken finals: GOOD LUCK!

So, Appy Polly Logies for not having been on in a while. Truth is, I've got 2.5 weeks left of everything, which includes 3 research papers on top of everything else.
All that would be fine, but then you have to add 2 job interviews (didn't get one, we'll see 'bout t'other).
And then...

FRISBEEEEEEEE!!!
(is there a frisbee emoticon? there should be.)

So my team Atropa went to Sectionals last weekend and placed 4th (I think), which means this weekend we're going to play at Regionals in Minnesota. If we win we'll go on to nationals. Chances of us winning are about -79. (79's my number; I like it.) But seeing as we're the "B" team, getting this far is pretty bloody amazing to start.
So...

I'll be gone all weekend. :D I'm so excited!!!

Doldrums

You know those days when you just feel depressed, not in an emo, life-threatening way, but just in a doldrums kind of way?

There's no reason I should feel that or should have felt that all last week. I had a good week: Was in Chicago for an Ultimate Frisbee tournament at the end of my Spring Break where we broke from 10th to 6th seed and I got a great burn/ tan that I could tell people I got in Florida but found it funnier to tell the truth (I put on sunscreen, too!). Got back to class where I discovered I pwn at Latin scantion (more so than my TA) and reaffirmed my beliefs that Provence is one of the best places in the world. Applied for a summer job as a tour guide, and got invited to Italy by my Dad and invited a friend to come. The lake unfroze, the ducks came out, it was nice, and then it snowed (which I loved :D). I had a mango and made myself banana chocolate chip pancakes (twice!) chocolate raspberry truffle brownies and tapioca. Came up with a really cool idea to make my favourite jeans more presentable (some times of mud don't come out -- especially the type you get going maple sugaring!!!!! :excited:). I have the coolest Easter plan which I can't post in case the recipients find this (they shouldn't, but it is so kick-ass that I don't want to accidently ruin it). Then there's those awe-inspiring moments like visiting the local Buddhist temple and having tea with the Geshe Sopa and his amazing/ terrifying cat.

Looking back, things like having that Archeology class outside on the ONLY day it rained and during 45 mins of the ONLY 3 hours it rained at all that day, or my roommate's alarm clock going off at 7.05 this morning and her having stayed at a friend's all night (I was a bitch to her all day; it was fun). So, yea I had my bad moments, like being outside in the rain for 45 mins and then finding my records paper all sopping and losing all my work which I have to make up and then write an essay on tomorrow, or sitting through all these awful UBand rehearsals with people who really can't play music, or reading the part in the Aeneid where the couple break up and Dido stabs herself with a sword as Aeneas pisses off, or not getting too much sleep 'cause my roommate has been pulling all nighters and coming to bed at odd hours (insomnia doesn't help either), or watching Hot Fuzz with a group of friends (hilarious movie) and then remembering the last time it came up...

So... bollocks. Not that any of you care anyway.
